Our Mission
"A Power for Good"
Over one hundred years after it’s start, TWIG 2 continues its legacy of being a dedicated group of women working together for the benefit of Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Our current members uphold the longstanding TWIG tradition of monthly meetings in member's homes, where they develop fundraising initiatives, such as the Buckeyes at the Barn Event. Since 1916, TWIG 2 has donated over a million dollars to support Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

The Story of TWIG
"Together With Important Goals"
In 1890, a small sewing circle of women recognized that Columbus needed a hospital for sick children regardless of their race, creed, or ability to pay. They held a tea at the home of Mrs. James Kilbourne and together this group of women raised the initial $125 of the building fund. On February 1st, 1894, the hospital admitted its first patient.
By 1916, The Women’s Board, which managed the hospital, determined that the growing need for the hospital exceeded its operating budget. Seeking additional resources to close the funding gap, Mrs. Truitt B. “Daisy” Sellers, who served as its Chair, learned about the Twig organization that had formed in Rochester, NY. It had also started as a small sewing circle of women and had grown into a multi-unit organization providing tremendous support to the Rochester City Hospital. They humorously referred to each unit as a “twig,” owing to the fact that it was not large enough to qualify as a “branch” of the hospital. Daisy Sellers was so inspired that she took it upon herself, along with the other members of the Women’s Board, to form a “twig” organization in Columbus. Since 1916, Twigs have provided unwavering support to the hospital and are now recognized with the special name distinction: TWIG = Together With Important Goals.
